MHW Foundation’s Allotment Therapy project gives people of all ages a calm outdoor space where they can reconnect with nature, learn practical gardening skills, and improve their mental wellbeing through hands-on activity and gentle social connection.
Allotment Therapy is a nature based, therapeutic program using gardening activities to support emotional wellbeing. Sessions are led by trained facilitators and focus on practical tasks, reflection and building routine in a supportive group environment.

Our allotment has raised beds, level paths and seating areas. Activities are adapted to meet mobility or sensory needs. All sessions follow safeguarding and risk assessment protocols to keep participants and volunteers safe.

Duration: typically 60 - 90 minutes.
Group size: small groups (1 -4) to keep things calm and supportive.
Location: Northampton.
What to bring: sturdy shoes, weather appropriate clothing, a refillable water bottle.

MHW Foundation offers fully funded or subsidised spaces for people on low incomes or those referred through partner organisations. We also run paid community sessions to help sustain the project. If cost is a barrier, please tell us and we’ll find a way.
We welcome partnerships with local groups, schools and employers. Volunteers are vital to the allotment’s running if you can help with basic gardening, tool maintenance or session support, please get in touch.
We monitor participant wellbeing, attendance and skills development so we can show the difference the allotment makes. Typical outcomes include improved mood, increased social connection and greater confidence in everyday activities.
